Overview
Golden Goods Canteen is an indigenous women-owned business that serves traditional meals and comfort foods in the Long Lake #58 region.
This project was funded by Canadian Women’s Foundation and my challenge was to build a brand visual identity and design marketing materials for the client’s success.
Roles
Brand Designer
Marketing Designer
My Contributions
- Built a new brand identity to be able to recognized as an established business.
- Designed impressive marketing communication material that won over a successful contract.
- Created a strong, well-tailored digital presence on Facebook with thorough user research and analysis.
Background
The Golden Goods Canteen’s owner, Celia has spent more than 20 years working in the restaurant business and started to serve food at local concession stands without a proper kitchen.
She was looking to expand her business and was in search of a permanent restaurant location with a certifiable kitchen and customer dining area.
Challenges
I was given one week to construct a trustworthy brand identity along with strong pitch deck material to be presented to a golf course committee for Celia to convince them that her business would be a great fit for their vacant restaurant venue.
This was a very great opportunity for Celia, one that might not present itself again, so I wanted to put together a robust solution that would help her seal the deal.
Solutions
The entire branding package was designed from scratch, having only been given a one-page business introduction and a brief list of menu items.
Due to the limited time frame, I focused on designing essential marketing materials that could make a big impact. These materials consisted of:
- Brand logo
- Business card
- Business brochure
Also, I designed for her a Facebook Business Page, the most popular and effective social media in the First Nations community, that would increase awareness among potential customers.
Results
1. Client got her dream venue
With the created branding and presentation material brought to the meeting, Celia was able to impress the golf club committee and secure the venue.
Golden Goods Canteen is proudly located at Kenogamisis Golf Club, spreading appreciation for First Nations traditional food and culture in this new community.
2. Built a strong digital presence through organic social
The newly launched Golden Goods Canteen’s Facebook Business Page attracted more the 2,000 visitors, and the designed menu page generated a high engagement of 700+ likes, shares, and comments in the first three days.
This strong digital presence facilitated more interest in the restaurant’s physical presence, too.
3. Created an inclusive and welcoming community
Most importantly, Celia’s wishes that the Golden Goods Canteen become a welcoming and inclusive space came true.
Now, not only the Long Lake #58 people but also other neighbors visit the Golden Goods Canteen to enjoy the sharing of good food and culture with their loved ones.
